The Ca State governor just called out for only wearing a mask when he's with black people... Apparently a white hood would have been too obvious.

There are many thousands of people suffering long covid. Is there an influenza equivalent? Asking because I don't know but expect you do.

If 400 deaths a day from Covid is enough to get everyone frit up and locked down, why isn't 400 deaths a day from flu?
I suspect there are multiple facets to that answer, but the biggest one is "well flu has always done that"!

Re: Covid restrictions - are you adhering or not?
The point is that if the same rules are applied for 'flu deaths of 2-400 per day next winter then we should again be locked down for several months. If 'flu deaths are 2-400 per day and we are not locked down then why were we locked down when Covid death rates were in the same range?weeksy wrote: ↑Thu Jul 15, 2021 10:00 pmNot yet fella, spell it out for us instead of being cryptic. Post viral fatigue syndrome has long been known of. AKA Chronic Fatigue Syndrome or Myalgic Encephalomyelitis. Also called Yuppie Flu, which dates it quite well.

Covid isn’t flu. I think that has been amply demonstrated.
And, sad as it is, the number of deaths isn’t the primary issue.

Re: Covid restrictions - are you adhering or not?
We'll have to wait and see what happens next winter. But in the event that 'flu death rates are in the 2-400 per day range and we are not locked down then self evidently faulty risk assessment will have been used for either Covid or Influenza, and those responsible should be held to account.weeksy wrote: ↑Thu Jul 15, 2021 10:25 pmDunno. It’s not entirely clear what causes chronic fatigue syndrome. Possible causes include an infection or problems with your immune system or hormones.
So same question, does 'flu' have anything like the wide range of associated effects?
.gov.uk says:
Long COVID can present with clusters of symptoms that are often overlapping and/or fluctuating. A systematic review has highlighted 55 different long-term effects but common symptoms of long COVID include breathlessness, headaches, cough, fatigue and cognitive impairment or ‘brain fog’. There is also emerging evidence that some people experience organ damage.
Approximately 1 in 10 people with COVID-19 continue to experience symptoms and impaired quality of life beyond 12 weeks

LA County just decided that indoor masks are "mandatory" again after 11.59pm on Saturday. The response pretty much guarantees Newsom's recall will get enough votes in the county to kick the cunt out. I'd be surprised if anyone pays any attention to it.

Sounds like a good call. The delta variant looks to be starting to make its presence felt over there.

Re: Covid restrictions - are you adhering or not?
"The data reinforces the fact that Covid is not flu"
Seven UK universities, the Department of Health and Social Care and Public Health England
But what do they know, eh?
Younger adults admitted to hospital with Covid are almost as likely to suffer from complications as those over 50 years old, a study has found.
Four in 10 of those between 19 and 49 developed problems with their kidneys, lungs or other organs while treated.
The research looked at 73,197 adults of all ages across 302 UK hospitals in the first wave of Covid in 2020.
"The message is that this is not just a disease of the elderly and frail," said Prof Calum Semple, who led the work.
"The data reinforces the fact that Covid is not flu and we are seeing even young adults coming into hospital suffering significant complications, some of which will require furthering monitoring and potentially further treatment in the future."

We all know it's not flu. Flu is an irrelevance despite it killing lots of people every year.

Re: Covid restrictions - are you adhering or not?
We all know that flu is not Covid, but both are primarily communicable airborne diseases with similar transmission mechanisms and infection paths, and both can kill. Community responses should therefore be similar - flu is not irrelevant.

You talked earlier about risk assessment.
How do they incorporate potential consequences?

Re: Covid restrictions - are you adhering or not?
I was being sarcastic. It would seem that the only medical condition that concerns the UK government is Covid whereas, as you rightly pointed out the annual flu season causes a fair few number of deaths which, if were Covid deaths would provoke a drastic response. Flu almost certainly won't provoke a drastic response because in the great scheme of things it's normal.
Smoking related illnesses cause around 75,000 deaths a year, every year but those deaths don't provoke a drastic response. Covid is not going away. We're going to have to learn to live with it and not keep pissing people off with drastic responses.
I have a fair bit of faith in the scientific community that they will come up with better vaccines and better treatments in time. I have less faith in governments that think their actions are going to alleviate the current situation. They seem to be failing.
