There's a Day#5 'Test to Release', er, test that lets you out of jail early if that makes it more doable?

But you still have to pay for the 2 & 8 ones!
I wouldn't go back till September, not pressing right now. Just think it's a bit shit that, even with the same vaccine, we can't be treated the same for entering the UK

I'm not sure if you are aware, but even travelling from a green country you need to be tested before you arrive and tested again on day 2.
If you test positive then you need to isolate.
It's not foolproof by any means but at least it's something.

Re: Covid restrictions - are you adhering or not?
some have been told it's ok to travel to a testing centre too - equally daft!Potter wrote: ↑Thu Jul 15, 2021 12:13 pmAhh, well it's not that simple see.
You have to be in the UK a full five days to do your test to release.
Then you post it off and it takes 24-48hrs to get the result, so it's test to release on day 7 really - and that's if the post isn't delayed because of covid, which it will be, my daughters test sat in a depot for an extra 48hrs after dropping it into the priority post box where you don't have to go inside, so she was released on day 9.
A complaint got a totally unsympathetic woman on the end of the phone who didn't give a shit.
I told her to go through a green country and then laugh as she got back and infected all her friends, but no, she hilariously trusted that things would be ok.
Same as my mate going home to quarantine in his flat, but the parcel service wouldn't deliver his 2 & 8 day tests to his home so he had to go out to a pick up point to get them

The red/amber/green thing is pure politically driven populist bollox - you could argue that all government decisions are politically driven I suppose, but this deffo is IMO.
It's just a case of wanting to be seen to be facilitating people's holidays. Everyone deserves 2 week in Alicante (or however the hell you spell it). Stopping people doing 'cause, I dunno, there's a global fucking pandemic, is just mean innit? However you also need to be seen to be in charge of the situation.
Personally I'd just say you can't go on holiday, essential travel only. But I'm mean like that

Until when? Covid isn't going anywhere soon. There may be an argument to wait until vaccinations are more widespread, but we need to get moving again while trying to be a bit sensible in taking basic precautions.Mr. Dazzle wrote: ↑Thu Jul 15, 2021 1:13 pm Personally I'd just say you can't go on holiday, essential travel only. No-one anywhere in the world can go on holiday!
But perhaps more seriously - we need countries to be at the same 'level' as us to allow free movement?

P.S. I should also add, if you're on holiday ATM and the status of the country you're in changes away you get no sympathy. Have you actually watched the news at all in the last year? Jetting off on holiday the instant you're allowed and then acting all surprised when the situation changes is just dumb.

Whilst I don't disagree with those sentiments the latter bit won't happen until Labour stop being posh Islington lefties and socialist workers party 1978 idealists ...Potter wrote: ↑Thu Jul 15, 2021 2:00 pmYes to a point, but in short the unwashed masses are not big thinkers and will tend to go where they're pointed, it's that dependency on big daddy government to lead them and think for them. So the government opens up a country, puts it on the safe list and everyone breaks out their savings and rushes off, then they have the door slammed on their fingers and get told that even though they've dropped a few months wages on a holiday it's not safe after all and tough shit.Mr. Dazzle wrote: ↑Thu Jul 15, 2021 1:36 pm P.S. Aside from it being a bit of a hollow exercise it's also really bad political strategy, the working class won't forget being fucked around over their two weeks in the sun, especially the ones that have just landed in Mallorca and can't afford to book new flights or hop over to another green country. If this was twenty years ago and it was us in that situation I'd be either financially in trouble if I couldn't get back to work and had to quarantine, or I'd have to come back and lose my holiday.
This disaster might be a poll tax type event that killed the last Tory domination in government, voters have long memories when it upsets them.

so they don't think, or they do think. The govt leads them, or the govt gets fucked by them.
They are trusted to vote, but not trusted to decide when to wear a mask.
Got it.

No, I agree with you, and it shows why people shouldn't be trusted to vote
I'm okay, I'm in the CTA, I could go to England tomorrow with no restrictions. Coming back is a different story...

Re: Covid restrictions - are you adhering or not?
My Son's class was closed today with him on 10 day isolation and just had a message from another mum that a boy in my daughters class has also tested positive so she'll be isolating from tomorrow.
Managed well in the village thus far but seems its caught up with us. Bugger.
Tested both kids this morning and negative but I know the tests aren't 100%. Will do another round Saturday as well

IIRC they're quite accurate at identifying when someone has it, but can give a higher percentage of false positives from those who don't have it.

Wonder what's going to happen if, as seems increasingly likely, influenza deaths exceed 50,000 this winter (due to reduced immunity*)? The 'flu season typically starts in December and lasts about 4 months. That's about 400 deaths per day, and even an average 'flu season is about 25,000 deaths which is about 200 deaths per day.
Puts the current Covid death rates into perspective.

According to the latest PHE data, its respiratory datamart flu surveillance system detected no influenza positive samples between 28 December 2020 and 14 February 2021.

If Covid deaths rates were 400 per day we'd be locked down again. Do you now see where this is going?

Re: Covid restrictions - are you adhering or not?
I've had a lovely 18 months without kids.
2 extended Brit families on the bar terrace tonight. Kids running around. Babies yelling.
I suppose it had to end sometime.
Will they all have to isolate back in UK?

Not yet fella, spell it out for us instead of being cryptic. I can't be arsed with guesswork, make your point FFS. It's a common thing with you, you come in, make half a point and leave people thinking "where's he going with this" or links to articles without us knowing if you agree, disagree or are making a point in some way.
It's like starting a conversation and then just getting up and. .
