And not forgetting the solution the govt. is, by design or coincidence pushing, the one that dare not whisper its name: herd immunity
Every bugger now catching it will, by the miracle of The Lord God, Baby Jebus and Santa Claus, will have immunity of sorts. Some may succumb and fall to the wayside, so they won't have immunity and will be pushing up daisies, but one way or another the entire country will have some sort of antibodies fairly live-o, especially at the rate the Delta is spreading.

The only real testing of the vaccine is its effect on serious illness/hospitalisations. If it prevents transmission as well (it should do to an extent) then it will be a massive bonus, but that's not totally certain at the moment.

Again TBF they weren't exactly secretive about that aspect either where they? They've always said that it's a race to get as many people jabbed as possible - either everyone gets immunity from the vaccine or they get it from actually having covid right? The idea is get as many people as possible into the first group and not the second.
That's why they pushed back from Jun 21st to JUl 19th?

Re: Covid restrictions - are you adhering or not?
A lot of unhappy people here with Turkey being kept on the red list while plucky little Bulgaria next door is on the green list now. None of makes a lot of sense to me but it has little impact on my life. I've had 2 Sinovac jabs and I can go to the Gov hospital in Marmaris if I want and have a third Pfizer or Biontec jab - mainly because if I'm going to travel the Sinovac jabs may not be considered effective enough for some countries. A third, different booster should be OK.
I'm not going to bother with the third one just yet as the only place I'm possibly going to travel to is Southern Africa in December and at the moment, Covid isn't the main problem in S. Africa.
The people most pissed off here with the new listings are the Brits but it's the same old whingers and moaners who whilst claiming to be really, really concerned about Covid take every opportunity they can to pop into Marmaris and go to their favourite (full) cafe for lunch without their mask because restaurants are of course, off limits to Covid. The locals are also a bit unhappy because they genuinely like Brits coming here and spending money. They understand the situation though and the village is currently chock full of Turkish holiday makers and it'll probably be even worse next week when Kurban Bayramı is on (You'll have it in UK but with a different name). The place is full of cars and the beach is crowded. There's a fair few Ukrainians here as well. The locals are making a living.
Despite the influx of people from the big cities and Ukraine, we're still not seeing any Covid cases in the village although a week ago there was a blue blob on the map which indicated that somebody was isolating because of a positive test. But, personally I don't trust the gov's figures and I'm not convinced that the track and trace system, the reason for the blue blob on the map, is very effective or accurate.
I'm in complete agreement with gremlin about all this. People need to able to get on with their lives and take their chances with Covid as they do with heart disease, cancer, Hepatitis, Alzheimer's, walking in front of buses and old age. If the health service is so underfunded and undermanned that it can't cope then refuse treatment until they get their credit card out.

I thought I'd missed something.Mr. Dazzle wrote: ↑Thu Jul 15, 2021 10:32 am Well yeah that's the idea in general innit? That's why we still jab for Measles and what not right?
So, we're just in the hiatus when we have both
- not enough folk vaccinated yet, infection rate still fairly high
- are starting to see some of the 15% jabbed and unlucky to get covids - probably doubly unlucky because there's still masses more infected out to play
So the key is still to get vaccd.
Or
- infection rates will stay high
- there will be a higher incidence of double-jabbed infected (and folk will say it doesn't work)

Re: Covid restrictions - are you adhering or not?
Not so sure. I think the herd immunity policy may have been abandoned now. It increasingly looks like being double jabbed (or having antibodies from a previous infection) doesn't prevent infection from the delta, but it stops it being too serious. I think the plan is to let the virus do what it does and trust (hope) that the vaccine is enough to stop the health service being put under pressure. Covid is here to stay, at least for the forseeable.gremlin wrote: ↑Thu Jul 15, 2021 10:40 am And not forgetting the solution the govt. is, by design or coincidence pushing, the one that dare not whisper its name: herd immunity

As thought work have just confirmed "if you're working from home, continue to do so, nothing is changing for us on the 19th"MrLongbeard wrote: ↑Tue Jul 13, 2021 11:00 am I don't imagine I'll be getting out of the house for more than the day a week I've been doing since this shit hit the fan, and mask wearing in the office is a global requirement so again unlikely to change any time soon, so business as usual for me.
I'm in no mad rush to eat or drink out, not until table service is scrapped and I can belly up to the bar.

Apart from the numerous mandatory tests and the quarantine if positive?
And when would you like international travel to get back to some sort of normality? We know Covid isn't going away.

Yeah, but it ain't just the straight 'Rona we need to worry about, it's the shot of 'Rona with a mixer of bad health habits.
"Sugar and salt should be taxed and vegetables prescribed by the NHS, an independent review of the food we eat has suggested."

Somewhat worrying when you need to be prescribed fruit and veg. It boils my piss that people can be so ignorant of basic nutrition, but it seems so prevalent that maybe I'm in the wrong. If nothign else, this last year has been a shot across the bows in terms of appreciating the need for some level of physical activity and weight control, although what I see on the streets tells me the majority haven't got the message.
This is the one that gets my piss super-heated:
How about just making sure your kid eats a reasonable diet, eh?

To be fair (again ) there are very very few other options in the UK! You can't buy the vaccine anywhere, so the only way to not be NHS vaccinated is to be part of a trial of a new vaccine or to get in another country.
I honestly don't know how foreigners who've been vaccinated are treated in the UK. it's not been on my radar so I've not looked.

In fairness I could go on holiday to Turkey, but the thought of an additional holiday in a Holiday Inn when I return home, being bummed by a security guard on minimum wage whilst I sleep and waking up to shit breakfasts isn't floating my boat at the moment.
I keep that treat until I go to San Antonio later in the year.

NICE guidelines actually recommend giving kids under a certain age Vitamin D supplements. It's cheaper to buy all in ones rather than straight Vit D, so that's what we give Baby D.

For me, having had the same vaccine as many in the UK, but given in France, I would have to quarantine and do the 2 & 8 day tests. Which sucks. It's the same sodding vaccine

Lots of rhetoric there but not much in serious suggestions on 'doing it properly'. The only way to accomplish what you're suggesting is to ban international travel altogether. But the same question still stands, Covid isn't going away, so when would you start to open up international travel?Potter wrote: ↑Thu Jul 15, 2021 11:21 am When they can do it properly instead of imposing arbitrary rules that pander to voters but have very little to do with safety.
Currently thousands of people from red countries are booking up flights to green countries to try and circumnavigate the strange traffic light system imposed by the UK. I'm on whatsapp groups and the buzz this morning is Bulgaria or Croatia? My Indian friend tells me it's the same for his groups, except with lots more numbers, apparently you can travel from India to Bulgaria with no restrictions, mix with a load of Brits, then all head back to the UK with no quarantine rules.
If it wasn't literally fatal for some people it would be laughable.
My old mum will probably be dead by the time covid gets her, but I'd be understandably upset if she catches it because of this.
But hey, the Brits want to be able to go to the pub and enjoy two weeks holiday on a party island, so fuck everyone right?
Gremmers is right. It's time to get on with it. Sensible testing before you arrive back in the UK and testing after you arrive.

I say feed them steak and beer from an early age then shove 'em up a chimney.

Baby D is so fair skinned she can probably get a tan off the TV, but we give it to 'er anyway.
