very slow draining kitchen sink
Right guys I need some help, kitchen sink has become very slow to empty, I've taken the U pipe off underneath the sink and there was some gunk in there but nothing blocking it. I've put 2 bottles of Mr Muscle Max Gel Unblocker down there, 1 yesterday and 1 this afternoon, left them both 2 hours, still the same, any ideas what to try next???
thanks
thanks

Re: very slow draining kitchen sink
Get some caustic soda... mix it up strong...
Let that soak for an hour or so, then use a plunger on it make sure you seal the overflow when you plunger it.

That's the kiddy...
It will heat up like fuck when you mix it up. Always add the soda to water, not water to soda... use a wooden spoon to mix it... its very exothermic when you mix it...
That one might even be pre-mixed. I have some granules you have to mix.

The compressed air cans can work when a plunger doesn't. As advised, block the overall. And whatever you block it with, hold that firmly in place

Well you're no fun, water to soda is a lot more fun, if not particularly safe, you'll be telling him next not to put it anywhere near any aluminium.Wreckless Rat wrote: ↑Mon Nov 16, 2020 3:39 pm Always add the soda to water, not water to soda... use a wooden spoon to mix it... its very exothermic when you mix it...

Have you checked the other end of the pipe?
More than once I've put my efforts into the wrong section of drain only to find an outside drain or sewer is blocked.

Did the words "Denis" and "Nilsen" not spring to anyone else's mind when the OP's post?

Re: very slow draining kitchen sink
I'd be cautious what you're putting down it as we ended up with a massive leak everywhere just in time for xmas - we had to do the washing up in the bathroom until we could get it fixed .
I just shout at people not to put tea leaves down the drain hole to no avail....

I will refer you to the answer my colleague, Patrick*, gave when asked if he had any idea how to open a locked case where the keys were missing: Semtex.
* Definitely Patrick, he objected to being called Paddy.

What he said! ^^^
On mine I used to push the hose up the pipe with the tap on full. Often the fat that clogs up drains is cooling and setting further down than the ubend.

Re: very slow draining kitchen sink
Get some rods, disconnect the pipe under the tap, push rods through so you at least know there's somewhere for large amounts of water to go having loosened it up, then use the hose, preferably with a thin gun attachment to start with. You don't want the water from the hose coming back up the pipe accompanied by a few years of gunk if there's not enough pressure to dislodge/create a hole at the blockage.
