Last ride was commuting in the rain, but this was a few weeks ago, at the gold rush place at Kildonan.

Take the barrel off and you may find you can skip cleaning the crowns of the old pistons.

Re: Family politics rant - property
Remember that some beneficiaries may unhelpfully die before you, especially if they’re nearly as old as you. Shouldn't a well-written will allow for that? Yes, that’s kind of what I’m saying. There are many badly-written wills. Some may have lacked good legal advice; some may even have defied good ...

Re: Family politics rant - property
There's now't as queer as family Money’s thicker than blood! Getting some free money when relations die is comforting (and useful lol), but eager anticipation of it is unedifying and often misguided. I do think you should feel free to contest a will, or claim against an estate. You’re not going to ...

Re: Cleaning carbon from combustion chambers
Ardrox will work, there's also Carbon Off which is sold for use in restaurant trade for cleaning the carbon off pots & pans etc. Oddly enough, it smells EXACTLY like the *good* paint stripper. The fact they banned it in Califailure indicates that it does indeed work. https://www.youtube.com/wat...

Re: Family politics rant - property
My dad sold his big house in Leeds about 12 years ago and give us 3 lads a nice sum each. I used it to buy another house which worked out well financially. He always told us the villa here would come down to us when he went, but his bitch missus would live there till she died. About a year before h...

Re: Cleaning carbon from combustion chambers
Well the aforementioned videos certainly have the air of expertise IMO, he gives off the vibe of someone who knows what he's on about...but YMMV. I will take the cylinders and pistons to work and measure 'em properly to see what size they actually are. The recommended clearances I've seen from vari...

Yes, any of us could pose as experts on YouTube!
As Mr Soady sort of says, there is no practical maximum ring gap.
Also, the published maximum piston skirt clearance of 0.0061” is more of an ideal than a maximum.

Re: Cleaning carbon from combustion chambers
Make sure the top ring gap is no smaller than spec (0.008”?) Seems there’s a not brilliant rule against editing mistakes. Minimum ring gap in the manual is 0.010”, now that I’ve checked. The recommended gap was changed to 0.015”-0.018” in a late 1960s service note. I think that was to reflect the a...

Re: Cleaning carbon from combustion chambers
If you want good compression and neglible oil consumption, hone the bores with stones no finer than 180 grit, wash the bores with soap and hot water until the bore surface does not blacken a paper tissue and then rub the bores with just enough thin oil to prevent rust. Make sure the top ring gap is ...

A Triumph engine in good condition does not coke up like that.
I suspect the piston rings are not sealing well.

Re: Cleaning carbon from combustion chambers
Soak it in diesel for a few days.
One reason for them being 360 degree twins was the somewhat spurious “even exhaust note.”
Another was that 180 degree twins don’t work so well with a single carburettor.

If you ever have wax build up in your ear use bicarb. Way =better than that overpriced shit you get out the chemist. Not sure about putting in eye though. Thats a new one to me https://www.healthline.com/health/ear-wax-removal-home-remedy#remedies It’s not his ear and he hasn’t got wax in it, but a...

Yep. Well apart from the viton top seal and rubber lower one. And the alloy head with cast iron barrel ... and the steel pushrod tubes... and the silicone square section rings the tubes sit on... yep all the same... I get where you’re coming from but getting the right relationship between all the c...
