Re: 2 strokes; Noisy smelly unreliable things or the very soul of motorcycling?

If two-strokes hadn't been a technicality to get round the capacity restrictions in Grand Prix I reckon they'd have died out in the 60s with the Bantam. That said I do enjoy my 350LC, but mainly for its nostalgia value. Plenty of bikes are faster, better handling and easier to live with.

Re: Motorcycle Live - meh or yeah?

Ally Pally was always a nice place to visit, if only to look at the architecture. But F*ck spending loadsamoney just to walk round a glorified bike supermarket full of stuff you can't buy and tat you don't want to buy.

Re: Would you have an electric car if you had the money for a new car and were in the market for one?

I have no intention of getting a BEV in the foreseeable future, but I'm not a hater. I can see they have a great niche as city cars, in fact it wouldn't surprise me to see some city centres going EV-only in the future. Towns and cities offer the best options for charger location, and range isn't rea...

Re: KTM 1390 Super Duke GT is most focused version to date with new engine and semi-active suspension

I nearly bought a 1290 GT, but the dealer offered joke money for the bike I wanted to PX. So I sold the old bike for £1000 more than the dealer offer and cancelled my deposit anyway. It's still on my list and I'm on the FB owners page, but I keep hearing stories of electrical gremlins. Nothing catas...

Re: Is Russia just about to invade Ukraine?

The question now is, will Trump do what he said he'd do and end the war in 24 hours? I'll give him some leeway on the timescale, but if he's serious about it he can get his guy to pop over to Kiev and tell Zelenskiy, "If you and the Russians haven't got a workable peace deal by the time I'm ina...

Re: Clutch not fully disengaging - any ideas?,

Dragging clutch usually has one (or both) of two causes - assuming adjustment isn't wrong. The plates may have warped from heavy use - repeated racing starts can cause this. So when the lift the springs the plates still remain in contact. Or the centre and basket may have notched, again can be cause...

Re: Do fuel stabilizers work

I put my lad's SV650 back on the road last month after 6 years layup. Sure enough it wouldn't idle on one of the cylinders. Took the carbs off, green inside. One emulsion tube appeared to have been butchered by a previous owner, which didn't help so I had to source a secondhand one. Runs great now a...

Re: Pension stuff, how's it all looking ? HAve you prepared ?

When I came back from Kazakhstan I looked at getting another job, but either employers didn't want an old bloke or the jobs were shit. So I looked at what I had saved up and what was in the pension pot and worked out that on pure drawdown plus the state and a couple of personal pensions when they ki...

Re: Friday thread, the post-election no-one really cares about

I wouldn't say I don't care about Trump. When he puts up his trade barriers that's likely to cause a global recession, which is something we're all going to care about however much we aren't interested in politics. Until then, the post-mortems have been done, Harris misread the mood of the nation - ...

Re: Small number plates, loud exhausts, dark tinted visors, do you still use any of these naughty biker things?

Yes, kind of.

My helmet has a legal flip down dark inner visor. My numberplate is slightly smaller (6x8 rather than the legal 7x9). It just looks better but doesn't draw attention to itself. And my slip-on can runs a baffle.

I'm only slightly rebellious.

Re: Talk to me about boost plugs!

From what I understand all they do is alter the air intake temp to try and make the ECU pump more fuel to richen mixture at closed throttle. Shouldn't affect oil in anyway. Pretty much that. Most modern bikes run very lean at low to mid revs under closed loop control, for emissions purposes. This r...

Re: What brand would you bring back?

I wouldn't. What's the point of a name on a tank when it's a different firm, different country, producing something totally unrelated to anything else that came from the former factory? I'm particularly not a fan of kitsch retros using model names stolen from bikes that set records at Daytona, Bonne...

Re: Is Racing Getting Too Expensive?

It was getting expensive when I retired. This was 14 years ago but the figure of £300 is in my mind for some reason, and that was for a club race. It really started going up with the MCRCB (a group comprising mainly MSV) took over the British Championships and transformed it into BSB. Their guy Jim ...

Re: Get Rid Of All The Tech?

When road bikes nowadays have traction control it seems a retrograde step to me to outlaw it on race ones. Yes it's great for the ones who have such fine judgement that they can handle it unassisted but do we really want to watch races where a few people lap the rest of the field? Then you have the ...

If Ewan and Charley hadn't lugged and trucked a pair of overweight expensive BMWs across Siberia 20 years ago only a few old pipe smokers would be riding them today. They are woefully inadequate for any sort of actual "adventure" riding - who needs 1300ccs of power and 30 litres of fuel hi...

Re: Diesel heaters for a cold garage.

As long as you can vent the exhaust fumes outside, how about a gas caravan heater? I know from experience that they put out pretty good heat, and bottled gas isn't that expensive to run on. Deffo wouldn't use a free standing one that puts CO2 and water into the air inside thegarage.

The Jury - Channel 4

Who's been watching this? A murder trial recreated for TV and tried by two separate juries, sat side by side in soundproof boxes, unaware of the existence of each other. The script exactly followed the questioning and testimonies in the actual case, the facts almost identical, only the names and pla...
