Re: Servicing, what would make you buy or walk from a sale ? Does it even matter ?
Depends how long the seller has had it. If hes only had it 5 minutes and there are 5 other previous owners then there's no way to verify services unless each owner meticulously kept receipts for oil/filter/plugs. But if hes had it for a few years and seems sensible then fine but I still want the ser...

Re: Bike spending traits
I seem to more less borrow everything off of ebay for a while. Bikes, exhausts, other higher value bits. If you buy stuff used in good nic, chances are you get back what you paid, plus or minus 10%. I've been moving the same lump of cash around for a decade or more. I don't do too many miles on anyt...

Re: the Game changer bikes
Actually - thinking about it, the Honda Hornet was probably more of a 'game-changer' because it was more than just an unfaired CBR600, it was a whole new frame incorporating a detuned CBR600 engine, and revitalised the 'middle-weight' market because it was as reliable and torquey as the super-sport...

Re: the Game changer bikes
But again, you're forgetting that "...high performance engine, sharp handling, decent suspension, powerful brakes - but without a full fairing and with more upright riding position, usually facilitated by using handlebars rather than clip-ons...." is essentially what a 'sports' bike WAS u...

Re: the Game changer bikes
Yebbut, did the manufacturer of any of those bikes rip the fairing off and slap on some MX bars? Do you mean ' ... and sell to the public'? Dual-sport bikes are hardly new. By some accounts, BSA launched the category in 1965 with its offroad-styled 500cc A50 BSA Wasp and 650cc A65 BSA Hornet. Three...

Re: the Game changer bikes
If i remember rightly, the 675 daytona was a really nice 600 class sports bike. Triumph cheated a bit by adding some ccs but it was a triple so maybe that's allowed. Anyway, Kawasaki had already done the 636? So nothing particularly game changing there. However, creating the street triple by ripping...

Re: the Game changer bikes
Mk1 Fireblade, effectively killed the 750. Defo a game changer. It made every other big sports bike of the time look like a tourer over night. The R1 has been mentioned, but I reckon that was just Yamaha's response to the fireblade. A very effective response, mind you. That's like saying the Firebl...

Re: the Game changer bikes
If by that you mean "the first time a manufacturer did a geniunely naked sportsbike, rather than one detuned for midrange etc." surely the Speed Triple pre-empted it by a few years? If you just mean fast naked bikes...well, they're been around for donkeys haven't they? At one point they w...

Re: the Game changer bikes
I'd say 675 street triple. First middle-weight roadster worth buying for decades... Not exactly game changing though, is it! It depends what you mean by game changing. It certainly made yamaha up their game and start making triples - the MT09 arguably rescued their ailing fortunes. Similarly, MV Ag...

Re: At last!
I've been hankering for one of these since they came out. They are really pretty. However, I had a go on one last week - a 2021 demo bike. I was disappointed TBH. It made some lovely noises, even on the standard can, suspension lovely, ride is very planted and sure. Ultimately though, its dull. Alth...

Obviously, this has better brakes and suspension, and some lovely paintwork. But for me, it still adds up to less than a simple restoration of the original.

I like it! But I would want a wider seat. I would probably spoil it and put a round headlight on as well.
