Re: Smart Thermostat + Self Fitting

I've installed both Nest and Hive (not at the same property) and preferred the Nest, but both are fine.
I don't know if the new versions have changed but my Nest had a hub that was installed at the boiler and replaced the controller, and then the Nest display/thermostat that replaced the old ...

Re: Would you have an electric car if you had the money for a new car and were in the market for one?

My Toyota Landcruiser Amazon 4.2 TD had a moderate under bonnet fire when the alternator decided to let go.
Thankfully a fairly small dry powder extinguisher I kept in the car managed to extinguish it, and with a bit of cautionary piping replaced and a new alternator saw it back on the road.

I have ...

Re: Strokes in your 40's

I thought this thread was going to be about old (well, young, seeing as I've left those 'ties behind) blokes on 2-stroke bikes.
My former business partner's family had never knowingly had any males make it past their 60th birthday without dying of a heart attack.
I'd been working with him since he ...

We were in plockton over the weekend - lovely little spot.

And you didn't pop in for a dram :o

My brother-in-law bought HM's police Land Rover.
A cousin was storing the vehicles locally, awaiting the next series that never happened once RC went all Hollywood.

The LR included permanently ...

Re: Drill batteries

I've replaced a couple of 18650 cells in duff battery packs. I got a moderately priced spot welder that's also a decent portable power pack for the mobile and other devices that need charging on the move.

I've given up on my old Ryobi battery packs and just use an adapter with the DeWalt batteries ...

Re: Anyone have an air source heat pump?

The unit on which it is based is c.60dB noise level.

My main concerns (other than if it'd produce enough heat...which it certainly wouldn't on its own for our house) would be:
- What if it snows heavily, especially with stronger winds and the fact that if you have an ASHP you probably have a super ...

The purification claims are just straight up weird.

And were banned by the ASA:
The Advertising Standards Authority (ASA) found that while the car does filter incoming air, it still releases pollutants from tyre and brake wear, with road tyres being a huge source of toxic particle pollution ...

My Boss just got rid of his 100,000 mile leaf, he never complained about the battery but also founded an EV drive company, sooooo....he only got rid because he's got a fancy luxury German EV from the mothership now.

I've been looking at Leafs to use the battery for home power storage, where it ...

Re: Would you have an electric car if you had the money for a new car and were in the market for one?

Well the only new bit is the battery and motor...both of which are notionally fit and forget.

The issues I've seen mostly that are specific to EVs haven't been the battery (except on the Leaf where the battery temperature management seems non-existent) and motor, but rather the inverter, BMS ...

Re: E- Bike battery fires. 🔥

It depends where your work as well, it would be justified in an explosive factory but not an office.
Phones have been known to catch fire, are they banned too?

I think the comparison between mobile phone and e-scoot batteries/BMS is well off the mark.
Nearly all phone batteries are integrated ...

Re: FIRST LOOK: THE NEW $7,599 BMW CE 02 ELECTRIC BIKE

I really like it (surprised much? :D )

I'm not in the market for an 11kW city bike though, so, you know.....not gonna buy one. Even if I wanted an 'around town' bike the nature of the roads in MK means you need to be able to hit 70mph with relative ease.

I imagine you'd want rather more than 2 ...

Re: Tell me about solar panels

There have been horror stories of failures within just a few years - and the installer company no longer exists.

I've very, very rarely seen panels fail...certainly not from the main makers who provide them for solar farms, where the big insurers will cover them to generate 80% of rated output ...

Triumph Tiger 1050 - 2009

A friend is selling his 2009 registered Triumph Tiger.
He is very mechanically minded and skilled so I've no doubt it has been very, very well looked after in spite of its 80k miles.

Given the location, if there's serious interest from a known member I might be persuaded to ride it to a mutually ...
