The one demonstrated by Fort Nine is a bit more reasonably priced and ditto the canister that you can replace yourself: https://www.thevisorshop.com/en/gb/Helite-Motorcycle-Airbag-Vest-Hi-Viz/m-18867.aspx?PartnerID=21&utm_source=google&utm_medium=cpc&utm_campaign=UnitedKingdom&gclid=...

That bike you should have kept...
Regret is a pointless emotion, but all the same I regret parting with my MZ Skorpion Traveler, with its superb combination of long distance comfort and bend-swinging fun in one package. Of course it was by no means perfect, the finish was a bit hit and miss, the lumpiness around town was irksome and...

Re: Would you have an electric car if you had the money for a new car and were in the market for one?
On the mainstream manufacturers theme, Hyundai/Kia got in earlier than most with several decent range models actually available to buy well ahead of the competition. Our Kia eNiro is a superb drive, very well equipped with excellent fit and finish IMO, all for a lot less than any Tesla. Real range i...

Re: Would you have an electric car if you had the money for a new car and were in the market for one?
I know this doesn't totally prove the lugnuts are done up but the system used on trucks/dumpers diggers is a good one. They have plastic tabs that go on the lugnuts when they have been torqued up. This means the driver can do a quick walk round visual check and at a glance see they've not moved. Ca...

Re: Yet another new bike, yet another Himalayan
So I braved the weather today for a 68 mile ride, all on back country roads in Cornwall. Keeping to the 37mph limit was reasonably easy, traffic very light and many of the roads are either 30 or 40mph speed limits or de facto sub 40mph due to tight blind bends etc. 37mph in 5th is 3000rpm and I main...

Re: Yet another new bike, yet another Himalayan
More revs, less use of torque supposed to be better nowadays? Yes I thought labouring the engine was the worst thing to do, but keeping it down to the recommended speeds in all the gears as per the manual* will inevitably lead to that in Cornwall. *max speeds in each gear (up to 300 miles) are: 1st...

Re: Yet another new bike, yet another Himalayan
Bike finally delivered late Monday night and naturally I was busy all yesterday whilst the sun was shining, and now I have time it has been p1$$1ng down all day. I did of course start it up and it does sound very pleasant. Having a “wet play” day gave me time to leaf through the owner’s manual. Nice...

Re: Would you have an electric car if you had the money for a new car and were in the market for one?
Back to vehicles and I have serious doubts about the viability of battery electric motorcycles due to the weight and bulk of batteries required to give the desirable range and performance, even a swappable battery would need to be very large and heavy to give the equivalent performance and range of ...

Re: Yet another new bike, yet another Himalayan
I still can't reconcile myself to a touring bike with 20bhp. On any trip, you are often going to need to sit on a dual carriageway or motorway to get some miles in to enjoy your destination area, I want to be able to sit at 120-130kph on the autoroute.. I did Cornwall to Garrison in NI via the Fish...

Re: Yet another new bike, yet another Himalayan
Top box and plate arrived today, but I won’t have the bike until Monday or Tuesday next week, by which time the rack should have arrived along with this Givi tanklock bag plus adapter ring thingy: https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/143375326290 I think once I have ordered some handguards I will pause and gi...

Bike transportation
I need to arrange collection of bike from Keighley Yorkshire to Redruth Cornwall. I have had one quote from Moving Motorcycles of £195 + VAT (=£234) and am awaiting a quote from another lot. Has anyone got a particular recommended motorcycle transport company? EDIT: I’ve just put the job on Shiply s...

Re: Would you have an electric car if you had the money for a new car and were in the market for one?
An EV needs a 32A charge overnight to make sense. Most lamp posts have at best 10A/16A feed for a whole row, that’s an amp or so per lamppost. I guess if you can leave your car plugged in for a month at a time a lamp post supply could work 🤣 I don’t know the details but I think it was more a case o...

Re: Would you have an electric car if you had the money for a new car and were in the market for one?
Given that the charging cables cost north of £1500.... it will be interesting what the travellers do, when the streets are lined with these.... apart from the trip hazards of course. It's absolutely not viable in the UK because of the level of theft. Until they find some way of charging a car in th...

Re: Would you have an electric car if you had the money for a new car and were in the market for one?
We are on our second EV, first was a two years old Leaf with 24kWh battery which was very good for everyday use but made longer trips take ages longer than an ICE. Now we have a Kia eNiro which is fine for all journey lengths as long as you are not the type to drive 80mph plus for 200 miles plus wi...

Re: Classic Cars
I like looking at classic cars and seeing them on the road, but having had a Beetle, a Vanden Plas 1300 Princess (never made it out of the back garden) and an admittedly rather sweet 1966 Wolseley 1100 I would say that compared to modern stuff they are not that great to drive, horribly polluting, dr...

Re: Yet another new bike, yet another Himalayan
Also yes I have heard the seat is on the soft side, I will assess it on some longer UK rides, but adding stuff on top would not be optimal for me as I am a short arse. Apparently the updated 2021 model has a firmer seat, so might be worth checking out the cost to swap if it gets good reviews. Either...
