Re: Phrases that just don't translate!

"Il (où elle) est casse couilles/burnes/bonbons" is the next level up.
The french do have a great array of expressions.
"Je ne suis pas tombé avec la dernière pluie" I was not born yesterday.
"Tu l'as dans l'os": literally you have it in the bone.

It seems to be full of trustafarians. And wannabe hippies. Maybe I'm getting old but all of the acts seem either rubbish or have beens who are milking it

I would get one of these and then wind it onto the rod and you can use an M5 bolt or rod on the other side https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/383719537128?mkcid=16&mkevt=1&mkrid=711-127632-2357-0&ssspo=g4gbkfnlsh6&sssrc=4429486&ssuid=mfDwExQDSAW&var=652111080093&widget_ver=artemi...

Re: What’s say the masses? I need a new car.

On a more serious note the Toyota Landcruisers are a nice vehicle to drive (4wd but a lot more refined than a pick up truck)
Some nice ones with not too many miles, suppose it depends if you need Euro 6 or not as the more recent ones can be a bit pricier.

Re: Vagaries of the english language...

I would put:
X: with a unitary resolution
X.x with a tenth of a unit resolution
X.xx with a hundreth of a unit resolution.

Strangely in french they have words for this:
Resolution au dixième (tenth of a unit)
Resolution au centième (hundreth of a unit)
Resolution au millième ( thousandths of a unit)

Re: Travelling to forrin lands - anybody used an eSIM?

I tried to use Nomad , when in Puerto Rico recently and the local Partner they had as AT and T had just pulled out of the country so could not activate it, but they were quite prompt in refunding me and have worked in other locations with no issues. I ended up getting one with Airalo, and it worked ...

Re: Things that don't translate as wellnas expected

One I just thought of is the term to introduce oneself when translated into french the verb introduce exists but means to insert something so it does not have the same meaning.
IE in English: let me introduce my friend is not the same as laissez moi introduire mon ami. :banana-wrench:

To be right about something is: avoir raison To have the right is: avoir droit this can be avoir le droit or avoir droit depending on the sentence. (Eg avoir le droit de sortir: be allowed to go out or avoir droit aux boissons: be entitled to drinks). Maybe some sayings have altered the grammar but ...

Also worth reminding that employing people will cost you money. Extra insurance, damage/neglect to your vehicle,(they will not treat it as you would as it isn't their property) and of course wages. You would need to be making a sizable profit on the runs you were not doing the driving yourself for ...

Agreed two evenly matched sides would have been nicer for more trys at least it was not too scrappy. I thought the ref did a good job of keeping the game going. Well done to two great sides. :obscene-drinkingcheers:

The Kiwi always complains about the refs, but particularly about this one!! I can't remember why he got so pissed off with him, but it's being going on a lot of years!!
Suppose he will moan some more now. :banana-dance:
