Re: Reading: The Book Thread

Currently on the last of the 'Beartown' trilogy by Fredrick Backman. (He wrote A Man Called Ove, which was excellent, and turned into the somewhat mediocre recent A Man Called Otto film). Not my usual fare, but. I've read several of his books now, and they are all, without exception, brilliant, inc...

“You know what uranium is, right? It’s this thing called nuclear weapons. And other things. Like lots of things are done with uranium. Including some bad things. But nobody talks about that.” I'll just leave that there. You evidently understand nothing about wespons grade uranium. I'll just leave t...

Re: This time next year, President Trump moves back into the Whitehouse...

I don't think many dispute that Trump says stupid things but it's like the Democrats are determined not to put up anyone more capable than him. They seem more dysfunctional than the Tory party. I agree to an extent. She doesn't come across as too smart or too capable, and you'd really hope for some...

Re: This time next year, President Trump moves back into the Whitehouse...

I've just been reminded of future president Kamala Harris's thoughtful and expert analysis of the war in the Ukraine: "So, Ukraine is a country in Europe. "It exists next to another country called Russia, "Russia is a bigger country. "Russia is a powerful country. "Russia d...

Re: This time next year, President Trump moves back into the Whitehouse...

Oh, you mean this: 1. the shadowy administration-behind-the-scenes do not appear to be really doing anything except propping up Bidens corpse. 2. This is a group of massively wealthy people, keen to carry on going until they own everything. 3. Trump is going to walk this election by a mile 4. They ...

Re: This time next year, President Trump moves back into the Whitehouse...

Never mind all of my "conspiracy theories" appear to play out and turn into reality. But they don't. None of them do. This is false equivalence on an epic scale. If you predict that 'they' (whatever shadowy organisation this is) will 'murder' trump and then some years later some nutjob ki...

Re: Hedge Trimmers / Pole Trimmers

Just for balance, I'd suggest there's a reasonable difference between the requirements of a pro and casual user. I bow down to any professional advice from the likes of Felix, but surely his main requirement is lasting a full day? Is that really a factor for the rest of us? I have/had a petrol pole ...

Re: Broken down

2017 I'd be investing in a can of AeroKroil... I work on 80yo stuff & the perfectly fine rose joints are original. The guy did say it was quite common for them to seize. Mind you, he also said they've been getting a lot of broken gearboxes recently too, so I'm happy with a seized rose joint tbh.

Re: Broken down

Seized rose joint on the rear brake lever, so presumably didn't return properly when I was leaving the petrol station and then quickly overheated and expanded.

New joint £18, half an hour's labour, all good.

Wasted day but whaddyagonnado?

Re: Broken down

I always carry a wrench and some sockets (I ride old bikes), I'd have had the caliber off, tie-wrapped to the fork leg and rode home with just one brake. Can't think of a suitable joke, sorry. Should have bought a Porsche  I have the mechanical skills of a dolphin, and not one of the cleve...
